Over Lake Lavon and through the pineys to Camp Coffey we go...

I hope everyone had a great and restful Thanksgiving. We went to Camp Coffey. At 9 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning Micah, Hollye, Logan and I loaded up our van with toys, extra clothes, water to drink for our travels, and headed to East Texas. I had a stash of Christmas CD's and away we went with a $30.00 tank of gas in the van which lasted there and back and a little more to scoot around on when we got home.

As we started passing the pine trees Micah and Logan were hooping and hollering, Aunt Sissies is just around the bend. We had to stop and buy Chicken Nuggets at McDonalds first for Micah. Can you believe those poor people were having to work? I guess they ate Chicken nuggets for their turkey! Then we stopped for diet cokes for me to drink with my meal. Everyone knows diet coke cancels out all calories! Only the boys had eaten breakfast this morning. Hollye and I were saving our space for turkey, pecan pie, pumpkin pie, dressing...

When we arrived Chef Bill was scurrying around the kitchen, tasting this, and tasting that, stirring this and stirring that, peeling this and chopping that. He had it all in control - - synchronized! The women (Ashley, Angie, Me and Hollye) mostly visited (as Chef Bill insisted) and "stay out of his kitchen by the way". Too many cooks in the kitchen spoil a meal or something like that! We obediently obliged and was thankful for the "squawk time".

It was so peaceful in the country...birds were chirping and the wind was softly blowing the trees. You could hear an occassional pine cone drop from it's perch in the tree and tumble on the dry grasses. The sky was blue with a smattering of fluffy white clouds drifting lazily along on it's way to another part of the sky. The weather was in the 70's. Michael (the great grand), Logan and Micah were playing and running and just loving being outside. I read some, and for a while was outside alone with my thoughts and thanking God for my family, the food, the day!

Chef Bill called us to "come and get it" and there sat a scrumptious turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes (Angie's contribution), green bean casserole, (Ashley's contribution), home made wheat rolls, and Chef Bill's famous cherry pie (complete with his from scratch, flakey pie crust). We feasted and Caligulia sat at our feet and waited for food to drop under the table (accidently). He had a feast too. Mike got up (had been working all night) and had dinner with us as well, then as suddenly as he came he was gone again, back to bed to get some more ZZZZZZ's. We went back outside and made some video, Bill took Caligula, Logan, Micah and Hollye on the trail walk, then suddenly it was time to go home. We loaded up our van with our heavier bodies and started for home as the sun was sinking quickly into the West. We bid our family a fond farewell and off to the busy city we went.

We left poor old Pawpaw at home sick for the day (what a typical Holiday for him) with instructions to go to mom's (3 miles away) to get his Thanksgiving dinner, but instead he got up and went to breakfast at Bill Smith's Family Restaurant and later ate a chopped ham sandwich. I think he enjoyed the solitude more than anything and watching the ballgame in peace. I'm sure he must have thanked God for those two things, Peace and Solitude!

Thanks Pilgrims for the tradition of gathering together to give thanks and eat what should have been the American Bird - - Turkey!

Merry Christmas John! Merry Christmas Sandy!

Hip, Hip, Hurrah! Last Saturday we got our Christmas presents, unwrapped and ready to use. We had our road fixed. Jackie Jordan came and leveled the road out, put rock on it, leveled it out, more rock, and we are ready to roll... It was wonderful! No more driving through creeks on the road when it's raining; no more weaving around pot holes the car could fall through or get stuck in; maybe even some company is in our future now. No one wanted to come out and knock the shocks out from under their vehicles. We are excited!

Then the phone rang early Saturday morning and Thresa said "Sandy, the people who bring wood for the winter are over here from Atoka, OK, would you like some?" How much? $200 for a cord! Tell them to come on over. Now we have a stack of nice and neat wood logs for the stove. What a great Saturday. Merry Christmas John! Merry Christmas Sandy! Some women want diamonds and pearls, but for me it's a good road to travel and wood to warm by.
